Q: The fact that only one top seed reached the
2000 Final Four-the others being a No. 8, a No. 9
and No. 5 seed-what does that tell you about the
game and is it good for college basketball?
A: I think it is. I was very excited about all the
upsets in the first and second round this year
because it created excitement and drama throughout
the tournament. But then from a ratings standpoint,
there were some people who were pulling for
some of the historically good teams to
stay alive in hopes of them reaching
the Final Four. To me, it didn't matter
either way. It's a wonderful thing to watch
a little-knownteam like Gonzaga make its run
through the tournament. But on the other end,
I'd eventually like the underdog face one of the so-called
powerhouses along the way and see what happens. That's what the
tournament is all about. It's David vs. Goliath on the basketball court.
